Samsung Estimates Record 107.4 Trillion Won Quarterly Operating Profit

Samsung Electronics estimates that third-quarter operating profit climbed 782.5 percent from a year earlier to 107.4 trillion won, as AI-related semiconductor demand and elevated memory prices powered another record quarter.

Samsung Electronics has estimated a record operating profit of 107.4 trillion won, or about $79.8 billion, for the third quarter, underscoring the scale of the earnings boost generated by demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The South Korean technology company said operating profit for the July-to-September period was expected to rise 782.5 percent from a year earlier. Revenue was estimated at 195 trillion won, an increase of 126.6 percent over the same period last year. Samsung did not include a net profit estimate in its preliminary guidance.

The operating profit estimate was 1.6 percent above the average market forecast compiled by Yonhap Infomax. If the preliminary figures are confirmed, Samsung will become the first South Korean company to report more than 100 trillion won in quarterly operating profit. It would also mark the fourth consecutive quarter in which the company has set records for both revenue and operating profit, a run that began in the final quarter of 2025.

Samsung did not provide results for individual business divisions in the guidance. Its device solutions unit, which contains the semiconductor business, is nevertheless expected to have supplied the dominant share of earnings. Heavy global spending on data centers and other AI infrastructure has tightened semiconductor supplies and supported high memory-chip prices.

The company has benefited from its position as the world’s largest memory-chip producer by capacity. It has also moved toward higher-value products, including sixth-generation high-bandwidth memory chips. Samsung was the first company in the industry to begin mass production and shipments of HBM4, a class of memory designed to handle the high data-transfer demands of advanced AI computing systems. The new chips are expected to make a more substantial contribution to earnings next year.

Market watchers expect the favorable semiconductor cycle to continue at least through 2027, with some projections placing Samsung’s operating profit for next year at roughly 550 trillion won. That outlook reflects expectations that AI investment will remain strong and keep demand elevated for advanced memory products.

Performance outside semiconductors appears less robust. The device experience division, which covers smartphones and consumer electronics, is expected to have delivered comparatively weak results during the quarter.

The figures remain estimates rather than final audited results. Samsung plans to publish its full third-quarter earnings report later in October, when it is expected to disclose divisional performance and net income.
