Noh Seung-yul Faces Decisive Two-Event Push for PGA Tour Card
South Korean golfer Noh Seung-yul likely needs a victory in one of the Korn Ferry Tour’s final two events to climb from 43rd into the top 20 and secure PGA Tour membership for next season.
South Korean golfer Noh Seung-yul is entering a decisive stretch in his bid to return to the PGA Tour, with only two Korn Ferry Tour events left to move into a qualifying position for next season.
Noh is scheduled to compete in the Compliance Solutions Championship from Oct. 1 to 4 at The Patriot Golf Club in Owasso, Oklahoma. The tournament carries a $1.5 million purse and represents his penultimate opportunity to improve his place in the season standings.
The Korean has made the cut in nine of 18 Korn Ferry Tour starts this season. He currently ranks 43rd with 556 points, while the player occupying 20th place has 856. PGA Tour membership for next season is awarded to players who finish inside the Korn Ferry Tour’s top 20.
That 300-point gap leaves Noh with little room for a gradual climb. A victory at either the Oklahoma tournament or the season-ending Tour Championship, which begins Oct. 8, is likely to be required. Each event awards 600 points to its winner, making a late surge mathematically possible while also raising the stakes of every round.
The challenge is especially sharp because Noh must not only add points but also overtake numerous players ahead of him during the final two weeks. His nine missed cuts this season have contributed to his position outside the qualification places, turning the closing events into a narrow route back to the top circuit.
Elsewhere in the United States, the PGA Tour’s fall series continues with the $6 million Bank of Utah Championship in Ivins, Utah. South Korean amateur national team reserve Ahn Sung-hyun is set to test himself against PGA Tour professionals at Black Desert Resort.
The Utah field also includes Jackson Koivun, who helped the United States rally to victory over the International team in the Presidents Cup. Koivun already secured PGA Tour status for next season by winning the 3M Open in July. He is ranked 62nd in the FedExCup standings and is seeking a top-60 finish that would earn places in next season’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Genesis Invitational.
For Noh, however, the equation is more immediate. His season now comes down to converting one of two remaining starts into the kind of result that can erase a substantial points deficit and restore his PGA Tour membership.
