FC Seoul Beat Jeju to Move Within Seven Points of K League 1 Title

FC Seoul defeated Jeju SK FC 2-1 to extend their lead at the top of K League 1 and reduce the points needed to secure a record seventh league championship to seven.

FC Seoul moved closer to their first K League 1 championship in a decade with a 2-1 home victory over Jeju SK FC on Saturday, reducing the club’s title-clinching target to seven more points.

The league leaders improved to 65 points after 31 matches, opening an 18-point advantage over second-place Ulsan HD, who have played one fewer game. With seven fixtures remaining, Seoul can guarantee the championship by collecting seven points regardless of other results. A title would be the club’s seventh in the top flight.

Jeju remained fourth on 46 points after their five-match unbeaten run, comprising three victories and two draws, came to an end.

The match at Seoul World Cup Stadium remained scoreless through the first half despite both sides producing promising opportunities. Jeju came closest before the interval when Kim Shin-jin sent a long-range effort narrowly wide in the 29th minute. One minute later, Park Soo-bin struck the crossbar with a left-footed shot after Italo created space near the penalty area.

Both teams also lost important midfielders to injury. Seoul’s Lee Seung-mo left the field after experiencing pain in his right knee during an aerial challenge, while Jeju playmaker Italo went down with a thigh problem late in the first half and was replaced at the break.

Seoul broke the deadlock immediately after halftime. In the 46th minute, Choi Jun delivered a cross from the right side of the penalty area and Moon Seon-min redirected it with his right foot from close range.

Jeju equalized in the 72nd minute with the game’s most spectacular finish. Lee Geon-hee controlled Kim Ryun-sung’s cross with his chest near the left side of the goal area before scoring with an acrobatic right-footed scissor kick.

The hosts answered six minutes later. Moon redirected a pass from the back with a header into open space, allowing Kamil Klimala to surge forward and score from the center of the penalty area. The goal completed Seoul’s 2-1 win and moved Klimala into the league scoring lead with 14 goals.

Moon finished with a goal and an assist, making the decisive contribution as Seoul strengthened its grip on first place. The result leaves the capital club in control of its own path to the championship during the final stretch of the season.
