Kia Tigers Beat LG Twins 6-3 to Take Command of KBO Postseason Series

The Kia Tigers scored five runs in the first inning and defeated the LG Twins 6-3 in Gwangju, moving within one victory of winning their best-of-five KBO postseason series.

The Kia Tigers moved within one victory of advancing in the Korea Baseball Organization postseason after defeating the LG Twins 6-3 in Game 2 of their best-of-five first-round series on Sunday.

Kia seized control immediately at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field, scoring five runs in the opening inning. The early surge gave starting pitcher Adam Oller a substantial cushion, and he delivered six solid innings as the Tigers protected their advantage. Catcher Han Jun-su contributed an RBI double during the victory.

The game was played through intermittent showers in Gwangju, but the weather did not prevent the Tigers from securing their second consecutive win in the series. With a 2-0 lead, Kia now needs one more victory to close out the matchup and continue its postseason run.

The result leaves LG facing a difficult historical challenge. Since this playoff round was introduced in 1989, only two teams have recovered from losing the first two games to win the series. Both comebacks were achieved by the Doosan Bears, in 2010 and 2013. The Twins must now attempt to become the third team to do so.

Because the series is best-of-five, LG must win three consecutive games to advance. Kia, by contrast, will have as many as three opportunities to secure the one additional victory it needs. That imbalance makes the Tigers’ two wins in Gwangju especially consequential as the matchup changes venues.

The series will shift to Seoul for Game 3 at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, the Twins’ home ground. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. For LG, the contest is an elimination game; for Kia, it is the first opportunity to finish the series.

Game 3 could also carry special significance for Jamsil Baseball Stadium. The 44-year-old venue is scheduled to be demolished after this season, and a Twins loss would make Tuesday’s matchup the final game played there. An LG victory would extend both the series and the stadium’s competitive life.

Kia’s commanding first inning and Oller’s steady outing defined Game 2. The Tigers will arrive in Seoul holding the strongest possible position short of a completed series victory, while the Twins must win to keep their postseason alive.
