Chu Gaeun and Hong Suhyeon Win Asian Games Mixed Air Pistol Silver

South Korea’s Chu Gaeun and Hong Suhyeon secured silver in the 10-meter air pistol mixed team event, extending the country’s medal streak in the discipline to three consecutive Asian Games.

South Korean shooters Chu Gaeun and Hong Suhyeon won the silver medal in the 10-meter air pistol mixed team event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Friday, continuing the country’s run of podium finishes in the discipline.

The pair recorded 478.0 points over 48 shots in the final at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery in Toyota, Japan. India took gold with 484.6 points, improving the previous Asian record of 481.3 by 3.3 points. Iran finished third with 415.8, while Indonesia placed fourth with 349.4.

South Korea opened the final with 98.1 points from the first 10 shots, trailing India’s 103.0. India remained in front after the third series with 303.5 points, while the Korean pair stayed within reach at 300.2.

The pressure increased during the single-shot elimination stage. After Indonesia became the first team eliminated, South Korea faced a close contest with Iran for a place in the gold-medal phase. Chu scored 10.3 on the 19th shot, but Hong posted 8.4, prompting the Korean team to call a timeout. The gap narrowed to 1.3 points after the 20th shot.

Chu then delivered 10.4 and Hong added 9.4 on the 21st shot. Those scores lifted South Korea to 416.5 points after 42 shots, just 0.7 ahead of Iran, guaranteeing the silver medal.

In the final six shots against India, Chu and Hong both produced 10.5s at one stage and forced India to use a timeout. South Korea reduced the deficit from 8.4 points to 6.6, but India retained enough of its lead to claim the title.

The result gave South Korea a medal in the mixed 10-meter air pistol event for a third consecutive Asian Games. Lee Daemyung and Kim Minjung won silver at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games, and Lee Wonho and Kim Bomi earned bronze at the 2022 Hangzhou Games. Friday’s performance marked Korea’s first silver in the event in eight years.

For Chu, the medal completed a three-medal campaign at her first Asian Games. She had already won gold in the women’s 10-meter air pistol individual event and silver in the women’s team competition. Chu competed at the Tokyo Olympics but missed selection for the Hangzhou Asian Games before earning her place for Aichi-Nagoya.

Hong, who finished fourth in the men’s 10-meter air pistol individual event a day earlier, collected the first Asian Games medal of his career in the mixed final.
