South Korea Adds Silver and Bronze in Asian Games Team Shooting

South Korea won silver in the mixed 10-meter air pistol and bronze in the men's 50-meter rifle three positions team event, lifting its shooting medal total at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games to eight.

South Korea collected a silver medal and a bronze medal in team shooting events at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Friday, taking its total from the sport to eight medals.

Choo Ga-eun and Hong Su-hyeon earned silver in the mixed 10-meter air pistol competition at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery in Toyota, Japan. Their combined score of 478 points placed them behind India's Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet, who won gold with an Asian continental record of 484.6. Iran's Haniyeh Rostamiyan and Vahid Golkhandan took bronze with 415.8.

The result gave Choo her second medal of the Games after she won the women's individual 10-meter air pistol title on Wednesday. It was Hong's first career Asian Games medal.

South Korea was second after the opening stage of the mixed final, scoring 300.2 points to India's 303.5. The Indian pair extended its advantage during the elimination stage, reaching 364.7 after the first six additional shots, while South Korea stood at 358.9. Indonesia was eliminated in fourth place and Iran followed in third.

With six shots left, India led South Korea 424.9 to 416.5. The Korean pair narrowed the deficit over the first four shots of the final series but finished 6.6 points behind the champions.

South Korea also secured bronze in the men's 50-meter rifle three positions team event with 1,751 points. China won the event, finishing 15 points ahead of the Korean total. Team medals were decided by adding the qualification scores of each country's three shooters.

Joung Seung-woo led the Korean team with 592 points, the second-highest score in individual qualification. Park Sung-hyun contributed 580 and Gwon Hyeop-jun added 579. Joung was the only South Korean to qualify for the individual final scheduled later Friday.

The mixed pistol final began with each shooter taking 15 shots, giving every team 30 shots in the first stage. In the second stage, teams fired six shots at a time and the lowest-scoring pair was eliminated in successive rounds. The format left South Korea and India to contest the last six shots for gold after Iran's elimination.

Friday's two team medals strengthened South Korea's shooting campaign while adding another multi-medal performance for Choo and a first Asian Games podium finish for Hong.
