Three South Korean Marine Corps soldiers were arrested in Incheon on suspicion of paying for sex while away from their base during the Chuseok holiday, according to police.

The Incheon Samsan Police Station said Saturday that officers caught the three soldiers at an officetel in Bupyeong-gu, questioned them and transferred them back to their military unit. Their names were not disclosed. Police identified one of the suspects only as Private A and described the other two as fellow soldiers.

The soldiers had left their base on Thursday, the report said. At around 2 p.m. that day, police found them in separate rooms at the officetel, where they were suspected of engaging in prostitution. Officers went to the building after a citizen called South Korea’s 112 emergency number to report suspected commercial sex activity.

Police then arrested the soldiers one at a time in the separate rooms. The account indicates that the initial intervention took place in civilian premises and was carried out by local police, before the three men were handed back to military control following questioning.

The case places the alleged conduct at the intersection of civilian criminal enforcement and military discipline. The suspects were service members on leave, but the reported incident occurred outside their base and within the jurisdiction of the Incheon police. Their return to their unit after questioning does not by itself establish the outcome of the investigation or any military disciplinary process.

The report did not name the soldiers, identify their unit or disclose whether any other people had been detained or questioned. It also did not provide details about potential charging decisions, the soldiers’ accounts of the incident or any evidence beyond the circumstances of the arrests.

As a result, the allegations remain under investigation. An arrest on suspicion of an offense is not a finding of guilt, and any final determination would require the relevant investigative and legal procedures.

The incident was reported during the Chuseok holiday period, when the soldiers were away from their base. Police have so far publicly described the emergency call, the location and timing of the arrests, the questioning of the three suspects and their transfer back to the military unit.
