Musinsa’s Valuation Faces Scrutiny Ahead of Planned IPO
Analysts say the Korean fashion platform will need stronger evidence of sustainable earnings and overseas growth to support an expected valuation of 8 trillion won or more.
South Korean fashion platform Musinsa is facing questions over whether its expected valuation can be supported by current earnings as the company prepares for an initial public offering likely in the first half of 2027.
The country’s largest online K-fashion platform by sales is being valued at roughly 8 trillion won to 10 trillion won, equivalent to about $5.9 billion to $7.4 billion. Analysts say that range relies heavily on expectations for future growth and the strength of Musinsa’s platform rather than on its present financial performance.
Using the company’s 2025 results, an 8 trillion won valuation would imply an enterprise value equal to about 1.6 times gross merchandise value and 5.5 times sales. It would also represent roughly 34.5 times earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.
Comparisons with global e-commerce and apparel companies produce a wide range of possible values. Applying enterprise value-to-EBITDA multiples results in estimates between 1.6 trillion won and 6.4 trillion won. Measures based on merchandise volume and sales generate a higher range of approximately 7.6 trillion won to 9 trillion won.
The gap highlights a central issue for prospective investors: whether Musinsa should be valued mainly as a retailer or as a scalable technology-enabled marketplace. Analysts have argued that the company’s private-label operations, including Musinsa Standard, should be assessed separately from its platform business because the two models have different profitability and growth profiles. Strong margins in the platform operation could support a premium over conventional retail companies.
Musinsa’s recent growth offers support for the bullish case, but rising investment costs complicate the picture. Consolidated revenue reached 1.4679 trillion won in 2025, an increase of 18.1 percent from the previous year. Operating profit climbed 36.6 percent to 140.5 billion won, while EBITDA rose 29.6 percent to 232.2 billion won.
Revenue increased another 22.5 percent in the first half of 2026 to 821.7 billion won. Operating profit, however, declined 11.2 percent to 52.3 billion won as the company spent more on overseas operations, logistics and expansion of its offline presence.
That makes a recovery in operating profit and EBITDA during 2027 an important test of the proposed valuation. Continued growth in overseas sales, merchandise volume, global customers and participating brands could strengthen the argument that Musinsa has developed into an international growth platform rather than remaining primarily a domestic fashion marketplace.
Musinsa submitted a preliminary listing review application to the Korea Exchange on September 7. Its financial performance during the review process will help determine whether investors accept the premium implied by the upper end of the valuation range.
