South Korea won its third consecutive Asian Games silver medal in the women’s team regu sepaktakraw event on Friday after losing the final to Thailand in Nagoya, Japan.

The South Korean side was beaten 2-0 at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Gymnasium, extending a run in which Thailand has defeated South Korea in each of the past three Asian Games finals in the event. Thailand, the dominant force in the competition, claimed a fifth consecutive women’s team regu gold medal.

South Korea came closest to disrupting that record in the opening set of the first match. The team led 13-12 but could not close out the set, eventually losing 15-13. Thailand then took control of the contest and won the second set 15-5, completing a 2-0 match victory.

The second match followed a more decisive pattern. Thailand won the first set 15-7 and the second 15-6, sealing the overall final before a third match was required. The result left South Korea with silver while confirming Thailand’s continued command of the women’s team discipline on the continental stage.

Team regu matches are built around three specialized roles. Each side fields a striker, a feeder and a tekong, the player responsible for serving. The sport combines rapid exchanges, acrobatic kicks and tightly coordinated positioning, with players sending a woven ball over a net without using their hands.

For South Korea, the silver adds another Asian Games medal in a discipline where the national team has repeatedly reached the final but has been unable to overcome Thailand. Reaching three consecutive gold-medal matches demonstrates sustained competitiveness, even as the gap at the top remained evident in the latter sets of Friday’s final.

The sepaktakraw program will continue after the women’s team regu medal round. The men’s regu and women’s doubles finals are scheduled for Tuesday, followed by the men’s and women’s quadrant finals on Oct. 3. Those events will offer further medal opportunities as the Asian Games competition proceeds in Japan.

South Korea’s latest runner-up finish also continued the country’s medal campaign at the Games. In Nagoya, however, the women’s team regu title again belonged to Thailand, whose five-edition winning streak now stands as the defining record in the event.
