Busan City Launches Public Portal for Detailed Expenditure Tracking

Busan City Boosts Transparency with New Financial Disclosure Portal

Busan Metropolitan City has launched a comprehensive online portal, offering the public detailed access to its financial expenditures. This initiative underscores the city’s commitment to transparency and accountability, allowing citizens and stakeholders to easily monitor how public funds are utilized across various projects and departments.

The portal provides a detailed breakdown of the city’s spending, organized by fiscal year, account classification, and specific government departments. Users can explore financial data from recent and past fiscal years (typically from 2007 up to the current year), delving into different fund types. These include the General Account, which covers general administrative operations, and numerous Special Accounts dedicated to specific purposes such as public energy supply, fire fighting, or regional development projects. Additionally, a range of dedicated public funds for areas like cultural promotion, social welfare, or inter-Korean cooperation are also disclosed. This level of detail offers a clear picture of how Busan’s financial resources are managed.

Citizens can navigate the portal using intuitive search filters, allowing them to pinpoint expenditure details by specific department names, project titles, or broader categories like “Social Welfare” or “Environmental Protection.” For each entry, the portal displays crucial information including the current budget, actual expenditure, and any remaining balance for a particular project. To further facilitate analysis and research, all disclosed information, from individual project spending to overall departmental budgets, is available for download in an Excel format, providing convenient access to raw data.

This public disclosure aims to foster greater public trust and enable informed civic participation in the governance process. By making government spending transparent and accessible, Busan City empowers its residents to act as watchdogs, ensuring responsible and efficient use of taxpayer money. For any inquiries regarding the expenditure details or the portal’s functionalities, the public can contact the Accounting and Property Management Division of Busan Metropolitan City directly.
