Busan Metropolitan City is providing a free tax consultation service called the “Village Tax Accountant” (마을세무사, Ma-eul Semu-sa) program. This initiative aims to offer professional tax advice to residents, especially those who may find it difficult to access such services due to cost or lack of information. It covers both local and national tax matters, typically benefiting low-income individuals, small business owners, and those facing complex tax issues.
Residents interested in utilizing this service can easily locate their designated Village Tax Accountant. Information is available through leaflets and business cards distributed at local administrative offices, including city, county, and district offices (Gu/Gun/Gu-cheong), as well as community centers (Jumin Center or Dong-eup-myeon Office). Additionally, comprehensive lists of Village Tax Accountants are posted on the official websites of Busan City, local district/county offices, and the Ministry of Interior and Safety. For districts where specific neighborhoods (dong) are not assigned to a particular tax accountant, residents have the flexibility to choose any Village Tax Accountant listed for that area.
The consultation process is structured in two stages, beginning with convenient remote options. For the initial consultation, residents can contact their chosen Village Tax Accountant via telephone, fax, or email. In some cases, a “Visiting Village Tax Accountant” service may also be available, providing direct support within the community.
If the first stage of consultation proves insufficient or if more detailed discussion is required, residents can request a second-stage consultation. During this phase, the resident and the Village Tax Accountant can mutually agree upon a time and location for a face-to-face meeting, ensuring personalized and thorough advice.
The Village Tax Accountant service is primarily designed for Busan residents. It provides invaluable assistance with various tax concerns, ranging from understanding local taxes such as property acquisition tax and property tax, to national taxes like income tax and value-added tax. The service is completely free of charge, removing financial barriers to professional tax guidance.
This ongoing program underscores Busan City’s commitment to enhancing public welfare by making professional services more accessible. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this initiative to clarify tax-related questions and ensure compliance without incurring professional fees.
