Daegu Library is set to host a vibrant series of cultural and literary events from April 10 to 25, 2026, to celebrate April as ‘Library Month’. The comprehensive program aims to enhance the city’s reading culture and provide expanded opportunities for cultural engagement, transforming the library into a dynamic cultural complex that integrates books, culture, and art.
Held under the theme, ‘A Small Unfolding Within the Library, A Big Opening to the World,’ these events coincide with significant national and international observances, including Korea’s Library Day on April 12, Library Week from April 12-18, and World Book Day on April 23. The library’s initiative emphasizes fostering a natural enjoyment of reading in daily life.
Highlights of the program include an immersive reading play titled ‘Pilgrimage House’ on April 11, adapted from Daegu’s Book of the Year 2022, offering a theatrical rendition for youth and adults. On April 18, a lecture concert, ‘Mendelssohn, Literature Read Through Music,’ will be presented in collaboration with the Daegu Concert House, serving as a special prelude to their ‘Mendelssohn, Connection’ performance later that month.
For World Book Day on April 23, an exclusive author talk will feature Kim Ae-ran, whose novel ‘You Said Goodbye’ has been selected as Daegu’s Book of the Year for 2026. This annual program champions local reading culture by spotlighting a significant work. The celebration continues on April 25 with ‘City Where Melodies Flow,’ a busking performance by the Daegu Music Association, held at the outdoor library ‘Chaektteurak,’ blending literature with live music.
Beyond these headline events, Daegu Library will offer a variety of interactive programs. These include an exhibition of original illustrations from the picture book ‘Carrot Kindergarten,’ a display of winning entries from the ‘Sweet Climate’ contest promoting climate change awareness, a digital detox transcribing experience, and a ‘Brick Book Squat Challenge.’
Citizens can apply for participation on a first-come, first-served basis via the Daegu Library website, with some programs also allowing on-site registration. Further details on schedules and content are available on the library’s official website and social media channels. Kwon Hyun-ju, Director of Daegu Library, expressed hope that these diverse April events will encourage citizens to naturally enjoy reading and establish the library as a vital space that brings energy and hope into their lives.
