Daegu Welfare Ombudsman Complaints to Integrate with National ePeople System

Daegu Welfare and Human Rights Ombudsman Service Integrates with National ePeople Platform

Daegu Metropolitan City has announced a significant update to its Welfare and Human Rights Ombudsman service, a dedicated channel for residents to file complaints. Effective October 2, 2024, the city’s “Dudurisso” civil complaint service, which includes the ombudsman function, will be integrated with the national ePeople (국민신문고) platform, streamlining the process for submitting grievances.

The Welfare and Human Rights Ombudsman serves as a crucial point of contact for individuals seeking to report issues related to welfare administration and protect the human rights of residents within social welfare facilities. The term “Ombudsman” originates from Swedish, meaning “representative of others,” and in a Korean context, it can be likened to historical roles such as ‘Homin-gwan’ (Protector of the People) or ‘Minjeong-gwan’ (Civil Affairs Official), highlighting its role in advocating for citizens.

This integration aims to unify administrative complaint services across the country. After the October 2, 2024, deadline, all welfare and human rights-related complaints previously handled by Daegu’s Dudurisso platform will need to be submitted directly through the national ePeople website (www.epeople.go.kr). This change requires applicants to either log in as an existing ePeople member or authenticate their identity as a non-member to register their complaint.

For those needing assistance with the ePeople system, the Government Civil Service Call Center can be reached by dialing 110 (no area code required within Korea). For specific system inquiries, individuals can call 1600-8172. Consultation services are available on weekdays from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (KST).

Residents with simpler inquiries or those seeking quicker general advice can still utilize the 120 Dalgubeol Call Center, Daegu’s local government helpline. This service operates from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM on weekdays (Monday to Friday) and from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturdays and public holidays (KST).
