Gyeonggi Education Teams Up with KOSHA to Bolster School Safety

The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) has officially partnered with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education to establish a robust safety governance system across schools in Gyeonggi Province. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on April 1, 2026, marking a significant step towards enhancing safety standards and fostering a preventative safety culture for students and staff.

This collaboration addresses a growing need for improved safety measures within educational environments. With the increasing introduction of new machinery in schools and the rising demand for tailored safety education, particularly for essential school employees such as food service workers and facility managers, the partnership aims to proactively prevent industrial accidents. A key focus is also placed on students, recognized as ‘future workers,’ ensuring they learn and engage in practical activities within secure and safe surroundings.

Under the agreement, KOSHA and the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will implement a comprehensive approach to school safety. Their cooperation will cover several critical areas, including:

  • Supporting Safety Education Resources: Providing customized e-learning courses for school staff, workers, and administrators, alongside offering collective training and field-oriented workshops to enhance school safety and health management capabilities.
  • Providing Educational Materials: Sharing existing safety-related content and industrial safety and health educational resources to raise awareness.
  • Promoting a Prevention-Focused Safety Culture: Collaborating on disseminating seasonal and occupation-specific safety prevention materials and sharing best practices among schools.
  • Other Safety-Related Cooperation: Engaging in additional joint efforts to address various safety concerns.

The initiative is expected to significantly elevate safety awareness among both school workers and students, thereby fostering a proactive, prevention-oriented safety culture across Gyeonggi’s educational institutions. Lim Tae-hee, Superintendent of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, stated, "Through collaboration with KOSHA, a professional safety organization, we will not only protect the safety of school workers but also create an environment where students can naturally learn safety rules in their daily lives." Kim Hyun-joong, President of KOSHA, added, "The safety of students, who are the future leaders, and the educational environment is the foundation of our society’s safety. We will provide all technical support necessary for the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education’s comprehensive school safety management plan to achieve tangible results."
