INCHEON – Incheon Metropolitan City recently hosted a seminar on Quantum Transformation (QX) for local companies specializing in materials, parts, and equipment (referred to as ‘sobujaang’ in Korea). Held on March 27 at Michuhol Tower in Songdo, the event aimed to explore the practical application of quantum technology in various industries and foster collaborative networks among businesses.
The seminar is a strategic component of Incheon City’s ongoing initiative to establish a ‘Quantum-Bio Convergence Cluster.’ This ambitious project seeks to broaden the adoption of cutting-edge quantum technologies within regional enterprises and strengthen cooperation between quantum technology firms and traditional manufacturing companies.
Approximately 100 representatives from local companies keenly interested in quantum technology attended the event. Discussions covered Incheon City’s vision for quantum industry development, available business support programs, introductions to quantum company technologies, and strategies for leveraging university research infrastructure. Key participants included SDT Co., Ltd., specializing in quantum computers, and GQT Korea Co., Ltd., which focuses on quantum sensors and measurement devices. Yonsei University’s Quantum Project Group also presented its quantum computing research infrastructure and corporate support programs, highlighting opportunities for expanded industry-academia collaboration.
A core theme of the seminar was “Quantum Transformation (QX),” emphasizing the practical application of quantum technologies in regional specialized industries beyond mere research and development. The city aims to integrate Songdo’s burgeoning bio-industry, the robust materials, parts, and equipment sectors in Namdong, Juan, and Bupyeong, and Yonsei University’s advanced quantum computing infrastructure to forge a globally competitive ‘Quantum-Bio Convergence Cluster.’
Following the seminar’s success, Incheon City plans to intensify efforts to build an industrial application-oriented convergence ecosystem that combines bio and advanced industries with quantum technology. Starting in April, the city, in partnership with Incheon Technopark, will launch various support programs. These include assistance for quantum technology companies, pilot projects, and resources for utilizing quantum computers. The initiative also aims to expand domestic and international industry-academia-research cooperation, thereby continuously strengthening the quantum ecosystem.
Lee Nam-joo, Director of Incheon City’s Future Industry Bureau, underscored the importance of this shift. “Quantum technology must not remain in R&D. Now, ‘Quantum Transformation (QX)’ — applying it to local industrial sites — is key,” he stated. “Incheon City will promote the creation of a quantum cluster that competes globally, driven by demand industries.”
