MOIS Enhances Local Welfare Services

The Ministry of Interior and Safety (MOIS), under the leadership of Minister Yoon Ho-jung, has announced a new initiative to provide expert consultations to 16 local governments across South Korea. Scheduled to run from April to early May, this program aims to strengthen and refine the country’s “Visiting Health and Welfare Services,” ensuring that support is tailored to specific community needs and effectively addressing “welfare blind spots.”

The term “welfare blind spots” refers to vulnerable individuals or households who are eligible for government assistance but remain unreached, often due to a lack of awareness, complex application processes, or insufficient outreach efforts. Korea’s “Visiting Health and Welfare Services” is a critical program designed to proactively identify and support these individuals by sending caseworkers directly into communities, rather than waiting for formal applications.

During these on-site consultations, MOIS experts will visit the selected cities, counties, and districts to offer specialized guidance and practical solutions. The goal is to help local authorities optimize their welfare delivery systems and customize services based on the unique demographic, economic, and social characteristics of each region. This ensures that welfare provisions are more accessible, efficient, and impactful for residents.

This proactive approach underscores the Korean government’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive welfare system where no citizen is left behind.
