S. Korea Bolsters Child Safety with Expanded 2026 National Plan

The South Korean government has finalized its ‘2026 Child Safety Implementation Plan,’ a comprehensive strategy aimed at establishing a more robust and all-encompassing safety management system for children across the nation. Announced by the Ministry of Interior and Safety on April 8, 2026, the plan significantly expands its scope, adding two crucial new areas of focus to enhance child protection.

The updated plan builds upon the existing framework by introducing measures for child care and the prevention of abduction and luring. • Environmental safety: Creating safe living and play environments.
• Facility safety: Ensuring the safety of public and private facilities children frequent.

• Child care safety: Implementing measures to protect children within various care settings.
• Prevention of abduction and luring: Proactive strategies to safeguard children from being taken or enticed.

This expansion underscores the government’s commitment to proactively addressing diverse threats to child welfare. The Ministry of Interior and Safety emphasized that the integrated approach seeks to create a safer environment for all children, ensuring that protective measures are comprehensive and responsive to evolving societal challenges.
