Kim Su-ji and Kim Na-hyun Win Asian Games Synchronized Diving Silver
South Korea earned its best Asian Games result in the women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard since 2002 as Kim Su-ji and Kim Na-hyun took silver in Tokyo.
South Korean divers Kim Su-ji and Kim Na-hyun won the silver medal in the women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Sunday, delivering the country’s strongest result in the event in 24 years.
The Korean pair finished with 254.70 points from five dives at Tokyo Aquatics Centre in Tokyo. China’s Chen Yiwen and Chen Jia claimed the gold medal with 328.56 points, while Malaysia’s Ker Ying Ong and Yiat Qing Lee took bronze with 243.72.
The result gave South Korea its best finish in the event since Kang Min-kyung and Im Sung-young won silver at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, when women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard diving was added to the competition program. China has won the gold medal at every edition since the event made its Asian Games debut. Chen Yiwen’s victory in Tokyo was her second consecutive title in the discipline.
South Korea went without a medal in the event for four editions after the 2002 silver. That drought ended at the 2023 Asian Games, when Kim Su-ji and Park Ha-reum earned bronze. By improving to silver with a new partner in 2026, Kim Su-ji added another Asian Games medal in the synchronized springboard and helped return South Korea to the result it achieved at the event’s inaugural edition.
For Kim Na-hyun, the silver was her second medal of her first Asian Games. She had already secured bronze in the women’s synchronized 10-meter platform event on Saturday alongside Moon Na-hyun. Her two podium finishes across separate synchronized disciplines made for an immediate impact in her debut at the continental competition.
The margin between silver and bronze was 10.98 points, with the Korean pair holding off the Malaysian team for second place. China, meanwhile, remained comfortably ahead as its longstanding dominance of the event continued.
The medal adds to South Korea’s diving results at the Aichi-Nagoya Games and restores the country to the women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard silver-medal position for the first time since 2002. For Kim Su-ji, it represents an improvement on her bronze from the previous Games; for Kim Na-hyun, it caps a two-medal opening weekend in her Asian Games debut.
