The Ministry of National Defense will lift or ease restrictions on approximately 29.16 million square meters of military facility protection zones, an area about ten times the size of Yeouido. The measure aims to protect national security while improving citizens’ property rights and supporting balanced regional development.
Restricted protection zones totaling 8.268 million square meters will be released in Goseong County, Sokcho City, Pyeontaek City, Goyang City, and Yongsan District. The changes are expected to reduce long-standing height restrictions, support development in the Godeok District and Goyang Techno Valley, and remove unnecessary restrictions around Yongsan Children’s Garden.
In Siheung City, approximately 17,000 square meters will be reclassified from a controlled protection zone to a restricted protection zone. In addition, flight safety restrictions covering approximately 20.515 million square meters around Susaek and Jochiwon Airfields will be lifted following changes in military operational requirements and airfield relocation projects.
The measures will take effect after they are published in the Official Gazette on July 22. Detailed maps and lot numbers will be available from the relevant local governments and military units, and information for individual land parcels may also be checked through the Land e-um online service.
The Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces will continue to review military facility protection zones while maintaining full military readiness. Further adjustments will be made where they do not interfere with military operations and can improve resident’s quality of life and local development.
