The Korea Workers’ Compensation and Welfare Service (KCOMWEL) has announced the results of its 2025 evaluation of medical institutions providing care under South Korea’s Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance system. The assessment, released on March 30, 2026, revealed an impressive 98% satisfaction rate among patients, an increase of 1.1 percentage points from the previous year.
KCOMWEL, a government agency responsible for worker welfare and industrial accident compensation, evaluated 334 designated medical institutions across the country. Following a comprehensive review, 33 hospitals were recognized as “Excellent Industrial Accident Medical Institutions” for their outstanding treatment and rehabilitation services provided to workers injured or diseased on the job.
The annual evaluation aims to enhance the quality of care for industrial accident patients, ensuring they receive appropriate treatment and rehabilitation services. It assesses various aspects, including medical infrastructure like personnel, facilities, and equipment, the appropriateness of treatment processes, and most importantly, patient experience and satisfaction, across 8 key areas and 23 specific items.
The high patient satisfaction score of 98 points is attributed to medical institutions’ concerted efforts to expand patient-centered treatment and strengthen rehabilitation programs. Among the recognized facilities, ‘Deundeunhan Hospital’ in Sinam-dong, Daegu, stood out as the “Most Excellent” institution. KCOMWEL representatives personally visited the hospital to present the award, commending its systematic rehabilitation programs and customized treatment services designed to restore patients’ functional abilities.
To further incentivize quality improvement, KCOMWEL plans to offer administrative and financial benefits to the 33 excellent institutions. These include exemption from on-site inspections for treatment expenses and an additional 3% to 5% add-on rate for medical fees for a year. Park Jong-gil, Chairman of KCOMWEL, emphasized the critical partnership with medical institutions, stating, “We will continue to work closely with medical institutions to ensure industrial accident patients can return to work faster and healthier by continuously improving the quality of care services.”
