Daegu Links Citizen Complaints to National ePeople Platform

Daegu Metropolitan City in South Korea is upgrading its citizen feedback mechanism, known as ‘시장에게 바란다’ (Wishing to the Mayor). This initiative provides a crucial channel for residents to directly engage with their local government, allowing them to submit proposals, suggest improvements, express visions related to city administration, or raise general and grievance complaints. It underscores the city’s commitment to transparent and responsive governance.

Historically, this service has been managed through Daegu’s own integrated civil complaint platform, ‘두드리소’ (Dudhuriso). However, a significant change is set to take effect. Starting October 2, 2024, the Dudhuriso civil complaint application service will be integrated with the national ‘국민신문고’ (ePeople) system. ePeople is South Korea’s comprehensive online platform for citizen petitions, proposals, and civil affairs, streamlining communication between the public and all levels of government.

From the effective date, citizens wishing to submit feedback or complaints via ‘Wishing to the Mayor’ will need to access the service through the official ePeople website (www.epeople.go.kr). Applicants must either log in as an existing ePeople member or complete a self-authentication process if they are not members. This integration aims to create a more unified and efficient system for handling civil affairs across different administrative bodies in South Korea.

Once feedback or a complaint is submitted, applicants will receive updates on its progress via text message. The resolution status and an option to complete a satisfaction survey can also be quickly accessed through a smartphone or by clicking the ‘My Results’ button on either the Dudhuriso or ePeople homepage. For specific inquiries related to the ePeople system, citizens can contact the Government Civil Complaint Call Center by dialing 110 (no area code) or the system inquiries line at 1600-8172. Consultation hours are available on weekdays from 09:00 to 18:00.

For more general or simple inquiries regarding Daegu City services that do not require formal petition submission, residents can utilize the 120 Dalgubeol Call Center for prompt assistance. This dedicated local call center operates from Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 22:00, and on Saturdays and public holidays from 09:00 to 18:00. This multi-pronged approach ensures that Daegu citizens have various accessible avenues to communicate with and receive support from their city government.
