Seoul City Launches Global Internship Program for Young Professionals

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced the launch of a new program designed to offer young professionals valuable international experience. The “Overseas Diplomatic Mission Dispatch Program for Young Talent” aims to send eligible individuals to Korean embassies and consulates worldwide, providing them with hands-on experience in diplomacy and public administration.

This initiative is part of Seoul’s broader effort to cultivate globally competent leaders and enhance Korea’s international presence. Participants selected for the program will work for approximately six months at various overseas diplomatic missions, including embassies, consulates, and permanent missions to international organizations. They will engage in tasks such as administrative support, research, cultural promotion, and assisting with public relations, gaining unique insight into international relations and government operations.

Eligibility and Benefits

The program is open to young Korean nationals who meet the following criteria:

  • Aged between 19 and 34 years old.
  • Currently residing in Seoul.
  • University students (including those on leave) or graduates.
  • Strong command of English; proficiency in other languages is a plus.
  • A keen interest in international affairs and diplomacy.

Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend to cover living expenses, round-trip airfare, and basic medical insurance coverage to support their overseas stay.

How to Apply

Interested candidates can apply online through the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s official website. The application period runs from May 20 to June 7, 2024. Required documents include:

  • A detailed resume (CV).
  • A compelling cover letter outlining motivations and aspirations.
  • Academic transcripts.
  • Relevant language proficiency certificates (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC).

The selection process will involve a comprehensive review of applications, followed by interviews for shortlisted candidates in late June. Final selections are expected to be announced in early July, with the chosen participants scheduled for dispatch to their respective overseas missions starting September 2024. This program represents a unique opportunity for Seoul’s young talent to become future global leaders and contribute to Korea’s diplomatic efforts.
