S. Korea Launches Supplementary Review for Nursing Assistant Schools

Ministry of Health to Conduct Follow-Up Evaluation for Training Institutions

The Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) has announced a plan to conduct a supplementary evaluation for nursing assistant training institutions for the first half of 2026. This initiative aims to ensure the quality and standards of educational programs for future nursing assistants across the country.

In South Korea, nursing assistants (간호조무사) play a vital role in the healthcare system, providing essential support under the supervision of registered nurses and doctors. Their scope of practice is similar to that of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) or Nurse Aides in other countries. To operate legally and issue qualifications, these training institutions must undergo a rigorous designation and evaluation process by the MOHW, ensuring they meet specific curriculum, facility, and instructor standards.

This “supplementary evaluation” (보완평가) is specifically targeted at institutions that previously underwent the initial designation and evaluation process for the first half of 2026 but may have been identified with deficiencies. It provides these schools with an opportunity to submit additional documentation or demonstrate improvements to meet the required national standards.

The submission period for this supplementary evaluation is exceptionally brief, running from April 6 to April 10, 2026. Institutions concerned are urged to act swiftly within this window. The MOHW emphasizes that full compliance with educational and operational standards is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the nursing assistant profession.

Detailed information regarding the implementation plan, eligibility criteria, and submission guidelines can be found in the official attachments to the notice. These documents are available in both HWpx and PDF formats on the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s website. For further inquiries, institutions may contact the Nursing Policy Division at 044-202-2693 during business hours.
