Kim Kwang-yong, Head of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters under South Korea’s Ministry of Interior and Safety, conducted an on-site safety inspection of the Yeouido Spring Flower Festival in Seoul’s Yeongdeungpo-gu district on Friday, April 3. The visit aimed to thoroughly review safety measures and crowd management strategies for one of the capital’s most popular annual events, which typically draws millions of visitors.

The Yeouido Spring Flower Festival, renowned for its spectacular cherry blossoms lining Yeouido Island, is scheduled to take place from April 3 to April 7. During his inspection, Mr. Kim focused on critical aspects such as effective crowd control, comprehensive emergency response plans, and the overall safety infrastructure to ensure a secure environment for all attendees. This proactive approach underscores the government’s commitment to preventing accidents at large-scale public gatherings.

The Ministry of Interior and Safety, currently led by Minister Yoon Ho-joong, serves as the central government agency responsible for public safety, disaster management, and local administration in South Korea. Its Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters plays a crucial role in overseeing national safety protocols, particularly for events that attract significant numbers of people, aiming to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for both residents and international tourists.

Officials emphasized that while the spring flowers are in full bloom, public safety remains the top priority. The meticulous inspection highlights the importance of stringent safety checks to effectively manage large crowds and mitigate potential risks, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere without concern.
