SRT Dongtan Station Opens ‘Seomseomoksu’ Nail Care, Empowers Disabled Women

SEOUL, South Korea – The Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities (KEAD) announced on April 8, 2026, the grand opening of its 12th ‘Seomseomoksu’ nail care shop at SRT Dongtan Station. Launched on April 7, this latest outlet signifies a significant expansion of the public-interest initiative, which aims to create stable, high-quality jobs for women with severe disabilities by utilizing idle spaces within railway stations.

The ‘Seomseomoksu’ project is a collaborative effort between KEAD, the Korea National Railway (KNR), railway operating agencies like SR (SRT operator), and various private companies. It transforms unused station areas into nail care salons, providing complimentary services to train passengers while offering meaningful employment opportunities to disabled women. This unique model not only enhances passenger convenience but also fosters social inclusion and economic independence for a vulnerable population.

The Dongtan Station branch marks a notable milestone as the first ‘Seomseomoksu’ shop to be established within an SRT (Korea’s high-speed rail operator) station, extending the program beyond the traditional KORAIL (Korea’s main railway operator) network. For this new venture, KB Securities participated as a key private partner, undertaking responsibilities for the shop’s setup and the recruitment and management of disabled employees. KNR and SR provided the station space, while KEAD was in charge of employee recruitment and specialized nail care training.

Passengers wishing to enjoy the free nail care service at the ‘Seomseomoksu Dongtan Station (KB Securities)’ shop, located on Basement Level 4 of the station, must make a reservation in advance through the KakaoTalk channel (search for: 섬섬옥수 동탄역점(KB증권)). To be eligible for the complimentary service, customers are required to present a valid train ticket for same-day travel.

Lee Jong-seong, Chairman of KEAD, emphasized the mutual benefits of the program. "The Seomseomoksu project is a win-win model that provides convenience to railway users and stable jobs for persons with disabilities," he stated. "We will continue to collaborate with various organizations to expand job models suitable for individuals with disabilities in the future."
