Incheon Metropolitan City has announced revised operations for its "Basic Food Security Pilot Project," also known as "Geunyang Deurim" (meaning "Just Give"), designed to provide essential food and daily necessities to residents facing sudden crises or severe financial hardship. The updated program will run every Monday and Wednesday from April 13 to April 29, 2026, between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
The initiative aims to ensure basic food security and identify households in "welfare blind spots" – a term referring to individuals or families in urgent need of support who may not qualify for standard welfare benefits due to various circumstances. It is specifically targeted at any individual or family experiencing livelihood difficulties in the Namdong-gu district of Incheon.
Each eligible individual will receive approximately five basic food items and daily necessities, with a total value of up to 20,000 Korean Won (approximately 15 USD). The program has a limited capacity, providing support to 100 individuals per week on a first-come, first-served basis, underscoring the urgency and focused nature of the aid.
To access the support, applicants must follow a two-step process. First, they will complete a checklist, register their personal information, and receive the allocated food items. A crucial second step involves mandatory counseling and linkage to broader welfare services. This comprehensive approach ensures not only immediate relief but also connects individuals to sustainable long-term support options.
The distribution will take place at the Incheon Maeum Police Substation, located on the second floor at 180 Baekbeom-ro, Namdong-gu, Incheon. For further inquiries regarding the program or application process, interested residents can contact the Incheon Metropolitan City Food Donation Support Center at 032-891-1377 or the Welfare Policy Division at 032-440-2917.
