MOLEG Bolsters Government Legislation with New Legal Advisory System

The Ministry of Government Legislation (MOLEG) of South Korea convened a significant meeting with legal affairs officers from central administrative agencies on May 15, 2026, at the Korea Press Center in Seoul. The “2026 First Half Meeting of Legal Affairs Officers from Central Administrative Agencies” was organized to strengthen collaboration and communication between MOLEG and various government bodies.

The core purpose of the gathering was to ensure that major government policies receive prompt and seamless legislative support. Over 30 central administrative agencies sent their legal affairs officers and related personnel, who engaged in discussions on effective strategies for advancing key legislative initiatives.

A key focus of the meeting was the introduction of MOLEG’s new “In-house Legal Advisory System,” which commenced operations in May. This system is designed to provide highly specialized and objective legal advice from public law experts within the government. This internal approach offers significant advantages in professionalism, impartiality, and data security compared to consulting external law firms or private attorneys, streamlining the legal review process for government initiatives. MOLEG urged all participating ministries and agencies to actively leverage this new resource.

Jo Won-cheol, Minister of Government Legislation, praised the legal affairs officers for their diligent efforts, highlighting the administration’s achievement of its highest legislative performance to date as it approaches its first anniversary. He affirmed MOLEG’s commitment to maintaining a close working relationship with these officers, promising ongoing support to help each ministry maximize its legislative capacity for effective governance.
