Korea Extends Free COVID-19 Vaccinations for Vulnerable Groups

The South Korean government has announced an extension to its free COVID-19 vaccination program for the 2025-2026 season. The deadline for eligible individuals to receive their vaccination has been pushed back to June 30, 2026, aiming to enhance protection for vulnerable populations across the nation.

This extended program targets specific high-risk groups. Eligibility includes individuals aged 65 and older (those born before December 31, 1960). It also covers immunocompromised individuals aged 6 months and above, as well as patients and residents in facilities highly susceptible to infectious diseases. Notably, immunocompromised individuals are eligible to receive an additional dose of the vaccine starting from May 1, 2026.

To receive the free vaccination, eligible individuals can visit nearby designated medical institutions, which are hospitals and clinics authorized by the government for national vaccination programs. Alternatively, they can go to their local public health centers (Boreonseo). These public health centers are government-run facilities found in most cities and districts across South Korea, offering various health services including vaccinations to local residents.

For comprehensive details regarding specific vaccination schedules, participating institutions in your area, and any other related inquiries, individuals are encouraged to visit the official Vaccination Helper (Yeobangjeopjong Doumi) website. This extension underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to public health and its efforts to safeguard high-risk groups against the ongoing threat of COVID-19.
